There's no place like home...or the West of Ireland! But don't just take my word for it- stop by occasionally and decide for yourself! Fáilte isteach!

Montbretia
This photo is a bit blurry I'm afraid, but the bright yellow of these Montbretia were just so lovely that I thought you might like it anyhow. I don't know the exact name for these as they were on the side of the road!...and I resisted the temptation to pull any up to plant at home!!

Glencar Waterfall, again!
The rainfall has been so high recently that numerous seepages have created small waterfalls along the rocks to the side of the main waterfall. With the moss and greenery, I thought this was really pretty!

Glencar Waterfall
The poet, W. B. Yeats, mentioned this waterfall in one of his poems:
Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glencar,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star...
...and ever since then it has become increasingly famous. When we were there last week there must have been at least thirty visitors visiting.
The waterfall is hidden from the road, but in the past you could see it from the hill across the valley. Now the trees have grown up and you may only hear the roar of it. It isn't very tall, but the volume of water is strong, and when the wind comes from the south it creates an optical illusion so that the water appears to be flowing straight upwards!

Rowan Berries
Down the country they do say you should always have a Rowan tree growing to the North of your front door, otherwise you'll likely have a problem with the Witches.
When we moved to this house a friend gave me this Rowan for that very purpose, and so I planted it, nearly five years ago.
So far we've had no problem at all with them pesky Witches, so I suppose the Rowan is doing his job!

Montbretia 'Lucifer'
Does it look diabolical to you? Its such a striking red and so vibrant I feel they could have come up with a more pleasant name!

Ragwort- Pretty but Lethal
Ragwort is known to be lethal to livestock when ingested with hay, so it surprises me that there isn't more effort taken to uproot it.
This specimin is in our garden and will be pulled up before it seeds; at present the Hairy Mollie caterpillars are finishing up their feasting on it before turning into cocoons.
